Where normal grammar looks at a conviction and defines which discourse belongs to which news show class, systematic functional grammar looks at the entirety of the text and what the gist behind this text is. In systematic functional grammar (created by Michael Halliday in the 60s) a text is analyzed in four ways: Context: This concerns the field (whats do on), tenor (relationship and social class of verbalizers/readers/writers) and mode (in what way is organism communicated: monologue/dialogue, speak/written, etc.). Semantics: This can be split up in to three metafunctions: Interpersonal: This is implicated with the interaction amongst speaker and addressee(s). Ideational: This is concerned with generating ideas for grammatical preferences which are employ for construing our set about of the world around us and inside of us. textual: This is concerned with how the text is structured as a message. Lexicogrammar: This represents the location of run-in i n both grammar and lexis. So structure and course are inseparable. Phonology: Concerns the use of sound to encode the core of spoken phrase (of course this implies that this field is not applicable to writing).
personally I feel that a system resembling this is needed in order to have a clearer earn on sentence and text structure in both given language (seeing as the traditional grammar style is iodin that evolved from the one from antediluvian Greece and thus is incompatible with many language from the middle and remote east) however it does not clarify to me how this allows us to for example forge how to conjugate a verb properly (especially! in Dutch, which has a likewise complicated conjugation system).
